GENERAL INFORMATION

Construction Workers Christian Fellowship is a faith mission organized primarily to

  1. evangelize people in construction, industrial plants, oil fields, etc. who traditionally are considered hard to reach for Christ,
  2. to promote mature Christian living and witnessing among believers who work construction jobs, and
  3. to provide service opportunities for Christians who want to make their time, energy, and skills available to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Our motto is: "Promoting Christ in construction--home and abroad".

CWCf was founded by Jim Hodges in 1968 and was incorporated March 27, 1970 as a Texas non-profit organization. It was granted tax-exempt status in November of 1971. The leadership is under a Board of Directors to which the Director is responsible. The main office is located in Kelso, Washington.

CWCf is supported by the gifts of members and friends and some of the churches who have benefited from its services. Three funds are maintained:

To date CWCf has sent over 400 volunteer work teams to various parts of the United States and twenty foreign countries. All projects taken on by CWCf are for established mission groups, churches, camps or schools, or other non-profit organizations that have evangelism and Christian growth as their main goal.

Our mission newsletter, With Sword and Trowel, publishes prayer and project requests, and news from our missionaries and volunteers, three times a year. A separate flyer, the ActionGram is sent to interested friends who want to be notified of project opportunities on a regular basis....top

EVANGELISM

(John 17:20-23..."that the world may know"...) Many times the gospel is initially shared in everyday on-the-job conversation (being sure work is not stopped in the process!) and continued on a one-to-one basis somewhere off the job site after hours. Specialized tracts, evangelistic Bible Study courses and Bibles are made available. Display booths manned by people who know how to share their faith have been set up at fairs, trade shows, etc. Breakfast ministries, evangelistic Bible studies, dinners, and pre-recorded gospel telephone messages are other ways we have reached out. The name Hard Hats for Christ originally referred only to our evangelistic arm. Now it is often used as a sort of nickname for the whole organization...top

FELLOWSHIP and DISCIPLESHIP

(Eccl. 4:9-10). Silent Christians are located, drawn out of hiding and encouraged to drop their defeated life-style and begin living actively for Christ. Hats, shirts, patches, bumper stickers, and lunch box, thermos and Hard Hat logos aid in making initial contacts. Bible studies at weekly breakfasts, or during the noon break, or in homes, help get the Word into hearts and minds and cause those we are working with to recognize the value of taking Christ to work with them and applying His teaching to their daily lives. Before-work prayer times reinforce their commitment. Counseling and visitation are carried on with those who have needs. Christian growth Bible Study courses are made available and their use is encouraged, particularly in areas where no strong, Bible believing/teaching church exists. Retreats and How-to-Witness seminars have been effective tools. Picnics, banquets and even work projects have provided growth-producing fellowship. Hard Hats for Christ Chapters provide a place for fellowship, planning outreaches, and participating on projects...top

CONSTRUCTION ASSISTANCE

If a missionary or pastor doesn't have to spend his time building or repairing (at the cost of temporarily having to leave his ministry of translation, church planting, teaching, or evangelism), he can give his time totally to getting the Word out. "We" work so "they" can preach. In this way many more people can come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ! Our philosophy is based on the principles of Acts 6:1-7. (Room and Board for our volunteers, and construction materials for the project are generally provided by the mission served).

CWCf provides short-term construction and maintenance assistance to our client ministries so that they can either expand their ministry or make it more efficient. CWCf also helps mission groups with emergency repairs, assists churches in setting up teams to service their own missionaries, deploys faith-supported construction missionaries, provides job supervisors for other ministries, and teaches missionaries and nationals construction and maintenance skills.

If missionaries or pastors don’t have to spend their time building or repairing, they can focus on getting the Word out through Bible translation, church planting, teaching, evangelism, and so on. "We" work so that "they" can preach (in word or deed). In this way, many more people can come to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ! Our philosophy is based on the principles of Acts 6:1-7. Room and Board for our missionaries and volunteers, and construction materials for the project are generally provided by the ministry being served

Our field of ministry is limited to organizations in full agreement with our Statement of Faith, and whose need and project has been carefully and prayerfully evaluated by the CWCf staff authorized by our Board of Directors.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Jesus Christ has commanded his followers to serve Him in reaching others with the message of salvation. Construction Workers Christian Fellowship was organized to do this within the realm of construction. The three basic purposes are:

  1. to tell construction workers about the saving power of Jesus Christ, that they may experience a changed life,
  2. to encourage and provide the means for construction men and women, whether they be new Christians or older ones, to have fellowship and Bible studies with the aim of strengthening their faith, and
  3. to assist missionary organizations in the dissemination of the Gospel of Jesus Christ through specialized construction and maintenance help, both in the United States and on foreign soil...top

DOCTRINAL POSITION FOR FELLOWSHIP

We believe in the verbal, plenary inspiration of Scriptures (2 Timothy 3:16);
In the deity of Jesus Christ (John 1:1, Colossians 2:9);
In salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ, not by works (John 6:37, Ephesians 2:8-10);
In the physical resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:3-4);
And in the Second Coming of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:16).

We strive to conform to Romans 12:10-12, "Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor; not lagging behind in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope, persevering in tribulation, devoted to prayer," (NAS)
